Sitges-Barcelona

Sitges is a charming coastal town located about 35 kilometers southwest of Barcelona, Spain. Nestled between the Garraf Massif mountains and the Mediterranean Sea, it is renowned for its vibrant cultural scene, beautiful beaches, and historical architecture.

While the roots of Sitges' artistic reputation date back to the late 19th century, when painter Santiago Rusiñol took up residence there during the summer, the town became a centre for the 1960s counterculture in mainland Spain during the Francoist regime, and became known as "Ibiza in miniature".

Today, the economy of Sitges is based on tourism and culture, offering more than 4,500 hotel beds, half of them in four-star hotels.

The town boasts 17 sandy beaches, each offering crystal-clear waters and a range of activities from sunbathing to water sports. Some of the most famous beaches include Platja de la Fragata and Platja de Sant Sebastià, both located near the town’s historic center. Sitges’ Mediterranean climate ensures mild winters and warm summers, making it an ideal year-round destination. Did you know almost 35% of the approximately 26,000 permanent inhabitants are from the Netherlands, the UK, France, and Scandinavia?

The town is famous for its vibrant nightlife, eclectic shopping, and excellent culinary scene, offering everything from traditional Catalan dishes to modern international cuisine. Sitges’ combination of history, culture, and relaxed seaside living makes it a top travel destination in Catalonia.
